A green ramp that only changes brightness looks like plastic. Real light changes hue as it changes value.
Push shadows towards blue and highlights towards yellow. The tree on this page uses ten greens, and not one of them is just a darker or lighter version of another.
Take your darkest green, move it five degrees towards blue and look again.
